Aikido is both, a fun way to exercise and a martial art that is accessible to all - regardless of your physical strength and experience. It teaches movement and technique and at the same time has other benefits including stronger concentration and mor inner clarity and strength in daily life.

A special Introduction to Aikido and a get together to connect and meet each other.

Next Joint Seminar 13 October 2012:

The Western Cape Aikido dojos are inviting you to a joint training session at the UCT Aikido Dojo in Cape Town!

Please also spread this invitation to any and all of your Aikido friends in the Cape. The event is open, everyone is welcome! And the seminar is FREE :-)

Training will stat at 2pm and finish at 5pm!

Gibert Maillot Sensei 5th at UCT on Tuesday 4th September 2012

 Hi All.

Gilbert Sensei will be teaching a class at UCT on Tuesday the 4th of September. 
Class is from 19:30 - 21:00
Mat fee is R50.

My experience of Gilbert sensei was that his Aikido was minimal, immediate and powerful. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about that aspect of Aikido. Please join us! 

There is a possibility of going for drinks after if it´ s not too late already.

Also, don´ t forget about our Monthly Regional gathering on Saturday (8th). This time it will be at Stellenboch.

Aikido Celebration Thursday 19 July 2012

Most of you have probably heard by now that four of our dojo members sucessfully graded at the Winterschool: Sharief to 1st Kyu, Amit to Shodan, Regina to Nidan and Sensei Ghalib to Yondan!

A good reason to hang out together and celebrate!
So on Thursday (tomorrow) after class we will have drinks, a bite to eat and some chill out time together in OBS/Rondebosch.

Winter School starts tomorrow at Stellenbosch University, so there will be no class at UCT. 

Come to Winter School! If not, we´ ll see you next week when normal classes resume.


Aikido Training with Wendy Palmer, 6th Dan Aikikai

Some great News from the Aikido mat!

Wendy Palmer Sensei, 6th Dan will be giving a class next Week Thursday at 18h00 - 19h00 at the UCT dojo!
If you have been away from training for a while this will be an absolute treasure occasion to come back. For those who are training regularly this will be a special treat!

The Aikido Camp in Betty´ s Bay is drawing closer and we look forward to spending an awesome long weekend together exploring the theme "Between Heaven & Earth" on the Tatami and to enjoying time to hang out and have fun together! 

As mentioned before different Aikido instructors will be teaching at the camp and in the afternoons we would like to have the opportunity different optional activities by Camp participants! So if you have anything that you would like to share please let me know and we will include it! This could be anything from meditaton practices, other martial arts or body practices, bodywork or anything else that you feel moved to share. 

If you would like to join please send me the following information by by no later then Friday, 20 April so that we have a clear sense of numbers and can take care of accommodation and catering arrangements!

The UCT club will be hosting a short Seminar with Wendy Palmer Sensei 6th Dan, from the USA.

The Seminar will also include training in Conscious Embodiment, a practice developed by Wendy Sensei that teaches us how to apply the principles of Aikido (awareness, centre, irimi, transformation, etc) in daily life.

Orientation Week 6 - 10 February 2012:

Our stall will be situated on the corner of the square surrounding the tree in-between the Mathematics building and the Otto Beit building closest to the Jammie Hall. We will hand out pamphlets and sign up students who want to join.

We are also doing an Aikido demonstration in Hall 3 on Tuesday, 7 February 2012 from 12h00 - 12h30.

Some exciting news at the start of 2012!

Gilbert Maillot Sensei (5th Dan) from France will be holding a weekend Aikido seminar at the UCT Aikido club on the first weekend of February!

Sensei Gilbert Maillot (5th Dan) from France is visiting South Africa once again and will be holding a seminar at the UCT Aikido dojo. You are warmly invited to join us for an excellet weekend of Aikido!

Friday evening will be a free class and demonstration so please also invite anyone who is new to Aikido and is interested to learn more and maybe join us on the mat in 2012.

Aikido on the Beach:

2011 is winding down and it has been a gift to share this year of Aikido and of connecting with all of you. We would like to celebrate and invite you to an afternoon of training and of enjoying Aikido, life and each other´ s company together.

Please join us for Aikdo on the Beach tomorrow Friday, 16 December 2011.

Where: Clifton 2nd Beach

When: 17h00 until the sun has dipped into the sea.

Please bring along your bokken and jo if you have them.

We will have a class and then a picnic, so please bring drinks and some food to share.

Special Class with Susan Newton (4th Dan):

Susan Newton (4th Dan) from the United States has kindly agreed to share with us and will teach a class on Tuesday, 29 November at the UCT Aikido Club (19h00 - 21h00)!

Susan began her study of Aikido with Robert Frager Sensei (7th Dan) at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, Palo Alto, California in 1992, as part of her doctoral program in psychology. Following graduation and licensure as a Clinical Psychologist in California, she traveled to Tokyo to deepen her practice in its home culture. While serving the international community as a psychotherapist, she had the great good fortune to study with Kato Sensei (8th Dan) for 10 years.

Now living in Portland, Oregon, Susan works as a psychologist and consultant in private practice, a free-lance editor, as well as instructing her own practice group in Aikido. Also in the Diploma Program of the Process Work Institute, Susan takes care of the Lao Tse Press.

This is an awesome opportunity so make sure you grab it :-)

If some of you could come a bit earlier to make sure the mats are down etc. that will be much appreciated!
